Your Complete Vape Dictionary: H-L

Vaping

We continue with the Vape Dictionary, giving you definitions for all the common vaping terms you’ll come across. (See all the articles in the Vape Dictionary A-CD-G, M-N, O-R, S-U, and V-Z.)

H

Heatsink – These protrusions come out of the atomizer or drip tip, and help excess heat to dissipate.

High Resistance – If you like to vape at a higher voltage, you need a high resistance atomizer (that has a high ohm reading).

Hot Spot – what you call a glowing red spot on your coil. If you have hot spots, it means your coil isn’t evenly wrapped. If you’re getting dry hits, it may be because you have hotspots.

High Voltage (HV) – any e-cigarette over 3.7volts. You have to be careful to only use an HV vape device with atomizers and mods designed for high voltage vaping.

Hybrid – This is a type of connector for a mechanical mod that makes the atomizer fire directly into the positive contact of the battery (not designed for sub-ohm tanks). Hybrid can also refer to an e-cigarette where the battery holder and atomizer are one unit, creating a sleek design.

I

ICR – Lithium Ion Cobalt Rechargeable Battery.

IMR – Lithium Ion Manganese Rechargeable Battery.

Inhale – What you do when you vape. Vapers inhale in two different ways; mouth-to-lung, or direct-to-lung. Cloud chasers and high wattage users generally prefer direct-to-lung inhaling. Most vapers prefer mouth-to-lung inhaling, as it’s the same technique smokers use.

J

Juice – What vapers sometimes call e-liquid.

K

Kick – “Kick” describes a throat hit.

L

Leaking – E-juice can sometimes leak and cause a mess on your hands, or – worse yet – damage the battery.

LED – Stands for “light emitting diode.” Some e-cigs (especially cig-a-likes) have an LED on the end to emulate the glow of a normal cigarette. They usually change colour when the battery needs to be charged.

Liquid – e-liquid.

Li-Po – Lithium Polymer battery. These are rechargeable.

Lithium-Ion Batteries (Li-Ion) – a high-quality rechargeable battery that is often desired by intermediate/advanced vapers. You can choose from a number of different shapes, sizes, and capacities.

LR (Low Resistance) – A low ohm atomizer/cartomizer/clearomizer, usually with 1.5 or lower ohm coils. You get more vapor, but it will reduce the battery life of your e-cigarette.

Whew! There are so many terms! Did you learn something new about vaping from the glossary?
