L.A.B have today hit number one on the Official NZ Top 40 Singles Charts for the first time with their latest single, ‘In The Air’!

The number one spot cultimates a massive climb for the single, which has seen it certified platinum this week, and also sitting atop the RadioScope 100 Airplay Chart as the most-played song on NZ radio this past week.

‘In The Air’ is the first independent local release to reach number one on the main chart since Flight Of The Conchords’ ‘Feel Inside (And Stuff Like That)’ in 2012, and the first overall since Lorde’s ‘Green Light’ in 2017. The track reaches number one after 10 weeks climbing the charts.

The top charting comes just days after selling out special headline performances for eight shows across Australia, Auckland’s Powerstation and Hamilton’s The Factory, with all shows selling out in less than an hour.

“It’s so pleasing to see a local track at #1 on the Top40 Singles Chart again,” says Recorded Music NZ Chart Compiler Paul Kennedy.

“We’ve been watching L.A.B on this slow but relentless climb, chalking up bigger and bigger numbers each week as New Zealanders have discovered ‘In The Air’. It’s not just a treat to have a Kiwi act atop the charts again, but great to see any artist achieve this difficult feat in such an organic way.”

L.A.B are set to close out the local summer with performances in the coming weeks at WOMAD Festival in New Plymouth and Homegrown in Wellington, before heading to a sold-out nine-show Australian tour in May.
