Currently if you want to buy electronic cigarettes in NZ your options are pretty limited. Either import nicotine e-juice, vape nicotine free e-juice, mix your own e-liquids, or buy nicotine e-liquid in NZ from a retailer who is breaking the law... None of those options are all that great and each carries its own risk... Solution? How about we get this elusive regulation working so we can start helping people instead of forcing people to put themselves at risk by either smoking or running through the rigmoral I just explained.
Unfortunately this video shows us that we still have a long way to go before WHO, FDA and other agencies actually make a call. We know NZ has an agreement with WHO to try reach a smoke free NZ by 2025. We also we know that before any of these entities make a call they are going to strip the whole electronic cigarette system down, sadly this will drive out many small and mid sized e-liquid suppliers in NZ... Now add the theory that big tobacco is involved too.
I agree we need to have a standard but do you know of any vape supplier who could afford 50k per flavour/nicotine strength to prove to Medsafe that the product they already know is safe, is safe? For us that would be $4,000,000 - Yep, thats 4 million dollars! Who can afford that??? Big tobacco thats who.
So big tobacco take over, then what? Among other things, the tax agreements come back into play and the government recoups the losses taken from those who have quit smoking, but guess what; the cost of your vaping just sky rocketed... And your e-juice flavour options just short listed... The list goes on.
AS MENTIONED ABOVE, IT IS KEY FOR NZ VAPERS TO STAND UP, BE HEARD AND BE AHEAD. WE NEED TO BE A PART OF THE DECISION MAKING PROCESS.
