Your Complete Vape Dictionary: M-N

We continue with the Vape Dictionary, giving you definitions for all the common vaping terms you’ll come across. (See the full Vape Dictionary A-C, D-G, M-N, O-R, S-U, and V-Z.)

M

mA – 1/1000th of an amp. You’ll see this on ads for e-cigarettes to describe the charger output.

mAh – Your battery’s capacity (milliampere-hour).

Manual – when you have to press a button on your e-cigarette to produce vapor.

Manual Shut-Off – You can shut off your e-cigarette by clicking a button a certain number of times. This is to help stop misfires.

Mechanical Mod – (aka mech mods, mech PVs, or mechs). E-cigarette models without wires or regulating chips. These mods also come in box shapes or converted battery cases, mint cases, etc.

Microcomputer – This is the small microchip inside your e-cigarette that powers the atomizer. Also called a microprocessor.

Micro coil – a coil with a tiny radius that’s wrapped so tight the loops of the coil touch. They require more wraps in order to provide similar resistance.

Mini – smaller versions of standard e-cigarettes.

Mod – Short for “modifications.” Vapers use mods to change what they can do with their e-cigarette. Most mods give your e-cigarette a larger battery, longer battery life, or better vape production.

Mouthpiece – The part of your e-cigarette you place against your mouth to inhale. Some people use customizable drip tips to change the feel.

Mouth-to-Lung Hit – The common method for inhaling smoke by cigarette smokers. When vaping, you inhale into your mouth, then inhale back into your lungs. Some smokes call this the “French inhale.” You get less vapor than direct-lung-inhaling, but you do get a better flavor.

MV (Multi-Voltage) – a regulated vape mod with a range of preset voltage settings you can select.

Nichrome Wire – Some atomizer coils use a nickel-chrome wire, usually 80% nickel to 20% chromium. It’s most commonly found in high-wattage devices, TC mode, and exotic coil builds.

Nicotine – Nicotine is an ingredient in cigarettes and some e-liquids – it’s what causes smokers to become addicted and crave that next cigarette. By itself, nicotine is only as harmless as caffeine, but when taken with the 1000s of harmful chemicals in cigarettes, it encourages a dangerous pastime. E-liquids have varying amounts of nicotine, ranging from 0% to 5.2%.

Nicotine Level – Different e-juices have different levels of nicotine. You can choose your flavours AND the amount of nicotine you want in your e-juice. You’ll see it measured in mg/mL.

NRT – Nicotine Replacement Therapy. If you’re trying to quit smoking, replacing the nicotine in your cigarettes with another, less dangerous source of nicotine has proven to increase your chances of success.

Noob – Beginner vapers. Vaping’s pretty easy, so you won’t be a noob for long!
